How EPS works

  • You apply through the EPS program in Nepal and must pass the EPS-TOPIK Korean language test.
  • Jobs are mainly in manufacturing, agriculture, livestock, fishing and construction, on an E-9 visa.
  • Because it is a government program, recruitment costs are much lower than private agencies. Be careful of anyone asking for large fees to "guarantee" a job.

What decides your monthly pay

EPS workers must be paid at least Korea's minimum wage, which is set every year. What makes the biggest difference is overtime, night shifts and weekend work, which are paid at a higher rate. Factory jobs often have more overtime than farm jobs.

  • Deductions usually include national pension, health insurance, employment insurance and income tax.
  • Ask whether accommodation and food are free or deducted from salary.
  • You can claim back your pension contributions when you leave Korea.

Changing workplace

Changing employers under EPS is limited and has rules. If you face unpaid wages or abuse, contact the local Employment Center or a migrant worker support center in Korea, and the Embassy of Nepal in Seoul.
